The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has signed into law the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 2020 (the “Act”) on the 7th of August 2020.
The Act repeals the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 1990, which has been in force for the last thirty (30) years, and is now the principal law with respect to the incorporation of companies, limited partnerships, registration of business names and the incorporation of trustees of certain committees, bodies and associations.
The Act is set to revolutionise Nigeria’s business and corporate landscape, as it is based on principles of transparency, corporate governance, and innovation.
