The 15th Annual NBA-SBL Conference hybrid 2-day conference opened today, 14th July 2021. Delivering the opening remarks, Adeleke Alex-Adedipe, Partner, Duale Ovia & Alex-Adedipe and Chairman, Conference Planning Committee, referring to the format, content, and lineup of speakers at the conference said, “This is a conference like no other” He continued that
He noted that the theme of the conference, “Retooling Business for Change: Leveraging the Tech Explosion” couldn’t be more apt in these tough and turbulent times, adding that it is precisely because of the times we live in that we must explore and utilize the possibilities for progress.
“Businesses depend on lawyers not just to dot the “i”s and cross the “t”s but to provide the frameworks that drive growth and make sense of a world in motion. We can’t fill this critical role without embracing the innovations of the 21st century. Technology does not diminish our profession… instead it enhances what we do. Indeed, this conference is a testament of how technology marches forward. Whereas one could say that last year we held an E conference as a response to health and safety restrictions on physical gathering, this year, our hybrid format is deliberate and strategic. On the other hand, it allows us to enjoy the best of both worlds, getting back the replaceable value of good, old human contact, and joining in on a refreshing excitement of borderless interactions. On the other hand, this conference gives us an updated picture of what the business rooms increasingly look like.”
He further stated,
“Our hybrid format reflects the challenges we have been through squaring off against the worst global humanitarian crisis of our lifetime. It also foretells a new and exciting beginning, demonstrating new possibilities that are available to us as a society when we embrace innovation. Whilst I’m delighted to welcome you to also the 15th Annual Business Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association, Section on Business Law. It gives me even greater pleasure to [say to you] welcome to the future.”
To conclude, he thanked on all participants present in person and online, speakers, special guests, the conference planning committee, and the leadership of the NBA Section on Business Law.
The 2-day conference which features seven plenary sessions and six breakout sessions as well as social and networking opportunities including a boat cruise, is open to legal practitioners and non-legal practitioners. More details are available at the NBA-SBL website.
